In Threthayuga, in the great war between Rama & Ravana, Lakshmana fell unconscious. Then Vanara vaidya “Sushena” wanted the powerful herb “SANJEEVANI” from the Sanjeevini hill found in the Himalayas. Sri Anjaneyaswamy found the hill but could not identify the herb, so he picked up the mountain itself. While flying on the way, half of the mountain fell in this place which was named as ARDHAGIRI (Ardha means half and Giri means mountain). Later on, the name was changed to “ARAKONDA” and then gradually because what is now known as ‘ARAGONDA”. Long years back this temple was built and the Idol of Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy was installed. The unique specialty if this idol is that the face of Sri Veeranjaneyaswamy is looking towards north.
There exists a small pond about three to four feet deep with lots of herbs ion the vicinity of the temple that is said to have been formed with natural spring in the Threthayugam. The holy water from the pond seems to be having divine healing powers which is curing several chronic diseases such as PSORIASIS, ASTHMA, TB, BP, SUGAR, ULCER, PARALYSIS Etc.
